On a drizzly April day in Seattle, Joanna and Justin created sunshine for their family and friends as they said their vows in the World Trade Center Seattle. I was so fortunate to be asked by Brian David Casey to be his second shooter for that day. He is so much fun to work with and I really admire his creativity. Plus, this is the third wedding we’ve photographed together, and he’s earned a reputation for working with some super fun couples. Joanna and Justin both played in Seattle rock bands (they moved to Boston soon after their wedding), and they and their bridal party were definitely entertaining!
Brian and I started the afternoon working separately, he photographing the gals getting ready while I hung out with the guys. They were total goofballs. Some might think it’s strange to meet someone and then immediately start taking pictures of them while they’re trying to figure out how to wear suspenders, but these guys joked with me the whole time and got comfortable with the camera very quickly.
Justin is in the Navy, and it was my pleasure to photograph his service dress blues. One of my grandpas retired from the Navy, so I felt a connection there. 🙂
Joanna and Justin chose to see each other before their ceremony in the Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle, where Joanna and her bridesmaids got ready. Having a “first look” allows for more time to enjoy each other’s company before the day gets hectic, and from a photography standpoint, it gives us a lot more freedom and the ability to get a lot of must-have photos taken care of before the ceremony.
Justin was soooo anxious to see Joanna! He seriously could not wait. You can just tell he can’t wait to open his eyes right here and see his beautiful bride.
Joanna and Justin exchanged gifts after their first look. Justin gave Joanna a homemade card, which made her squeal with delight.
I think they’re happy with what they received. 😉
A little bubbly for Ginnie and Alyssa while the groomsmen were being photographed.
It was a very emotional and happy moment when Joanna and Justin saw their families that afternoon. She’s definitely a daddy’s girl – so sweet!Joanna, I cannot stop staring at your gorgeous eyes!
Their ceremony at the west-facing World Trade Center Seattle began at 7pm, so we had a bright (albeit overcast) sunset streaming through the panoramic windows.
The World Trade Center Seattle overlooks Alaskan Way and Elliott Bay. You can even see the Seattle Great Wheel from there.
Being that Joanna and Justin are both musicians, their divine-looking cake was covered with music notes!
So…pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone cut a cake with a sword!
Atta girl. 😉 Congratulations, Joanna and Justin! I hope Boston is treating you well. 🙂 And thank you, Brian David Casey, for asking me to work with you again! Always such a blast.
